Hello, 

It’s Sally here, one of Sumoto city’s regional revitalisers. 

今日は、2021年春から地域おこし協力隊のアイディアと予定の話をしようと思います。1月末に三人目の赤ちゃんの出産予定日なので、12月の終わりから産休始まります。3月か4月ぐらいにまた働き始めたいです。よろしくおねがいします！

コロナの関係でイベントの予定は作りにくいですね。オリンピックがどうなるか、インバウンド観光客を集めて、イベントできるかどうかはコロナの状況によると思います。

I just wanted to write a little about my plans and ideas for the kyouryokutai job for 2021 starting in the spring. At the end of December I will be going on maternity leave for 2 or 3 months. It will be my 3rd baby, and is due at the end of January, wish me luck! 

Obviously, the plans all depend a bit on what happens with COVID, for example, how many foreign visitors are able to visit if the olympics go ahead, or whether it becomes more possible to hold events where you can bring people together. 

一応、私の藍染め工房AiAiiでは、英語と日本語の藍染め体験を毎回一組ずつ続けたいと思います。今年は島外のお客様が天然藍染めのために淡路島に来てくれました。藍染め商品の種類を広げたい、例えば、てぬぐい、ふろしき、のれんや靴下などを作ってみたいと思います。

First of all, in terms of my indigo studio, AiAii I want to continue offering workshops in Japanese and English. This year we had lots of visitors from off the island who came especially to try our natural indigo workshops. I also want to expand the range of products we are making, for example try to make some tenugui, furoshiki and noren. 

2021年からは、藍染めの原料も自分で作ってみたいです。今は徳島と北海道の「すくも」（発酵建て藍染めの葉っぱ）で染めています。「すくも」を作る過程では失敗してしまう可能性が高いと思うので、きれいな青色ができますように！また、今は畑を借りました。経験はまだないので、少しだけ作れればすごく勉強になると思います。できればボランティアや観光客と一緒に「すくも」を作る体験もしたいです。うまくできれば藍染め商品はもっと特産品になります！

At AiAii indigo studio we will also start to grow and ferment our own indigo, so this is a big project.  At the moment we buy our fermented indigo from Tokushima and Hokkaido. 

To make ‘sukumo’ (fermented indigo), there are many stages where we could fail so I really hope we can grow something that can make a beautiful blue. For now, we just have a small plot of land, I think we are going to learn a lot, especially as we have no experience in this yet. I would love to invite volunteers or tourists to come and experience making Indigo with us. It will make our products real Sumoto products.

2020年では壁画が３つもできたので、来年も何かやりたいです。洲本市がもっと楽しくカラフルなところになるように、近所の大人や学生も一緒に参加してくれればいいなと思います。大浜や商店街でも壁画を塗れる可能性があります。

In 2020 I painted 3 murals and I hope I can do something next year too. I would love to paint together with local people, adults or children, to make Sumoto more colourful and cheerful. It might be possible in the shopping arcade or down on Ohama beach. 

洲本図書館で子供向け英語の話し会の予定がありましたが、コロナで中止になりました。多分春か夏からできます。外にしたら楽しくて安全かな？英語で話すのは恥ずかしくないことを教えたいので、日本人の大人も英語で絵本を読んであげたらいいと思います。興味があったら私に連絡してください。

I also had plans to start an English story time for kids at Sumoto library which was put on hold due to COVID. I hope to try again in the spring/summer. I think it would be really nice to do it outdoors. I want local adults to participate by reading too as I think it helps to show the children there is no point in being shy about speaking English. If you are interested in taking part please let me know.
